General

What is OutRyders?

OutRyders is New England's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and gay-friendly skiing and snowboarding club. The goal of OutRyders is to create a friendly and open atmosphere where everyone can learn about, and participate in, these winter sports.

Who runs OutRyders?

The active planning board of OutRyders will plan most of the events and take care of all the behind-the-scenes logistics. However, we are always open to suggestion from our larger pool of members. Members have their biggest impact by having access to the OutRyders members-only mailing list to plan impromptu ski and snowboard trips, as well as social events.

Membership

Who should join OutRyders?

Anyone who wants to have fun on the slopes during the winter season should join.  Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities are encouraged.

Do I need to join to participate in the events?

Yes.  Only members may participate in all OutRyders events and trips.

How do I join?

Just visit our Membership page and follow the easy online registration.

What do I get for my membership dues?

The biggest benefit of the membership is the ability to participate in our activities and our mailing list. Through the mailing list, you will find out about all our upcoming events, whether they're planned months ahead of time or the night before a big storm. You'll also learn out about our occasional off-the-slope social events and any other club news. Through the mailing list, members can suggest their own trips, or find someone to ski or ride with when they have a day off in the middle of the week.  Plus, this Season, you will be entitled to an official OutRyders T shirt.

What if I don’t ski or snowboard?

You don't have to know how to ski or snowboard to be part of OutRyders—we welcome newbies   We also schedule off mountain events and socials throughout the year.

Activities

What kinds of events are planned by OutRyders?

Weekend day trips, weekday single-day trips, overnight trips, week long trips out West, ThirdThursday@Fritz, in -season socials around Boston, the Opening and Closing Season parties and much, much more!

What happens at the on-mountain events?

A morning meeting time and location is posted ahead of time so that members can meet and get organized once everyone arrives at the mountain.  Members then generally split up into smaller groups of similar abilities (green novice, intermediate blues, expert blacks, or members going to the terrain park or through the glades and trees).  Often members familiar with the mountain and the trials volunteer to lead a group.  This is a great opportunity to meet other OutRyders that match your skill level.

The lunch meeting time and location is posted beforehand as well.  This way, should your group further divide up, or if members become separated during the morning runs, they can meet up with their fellow OutRyders for a hearty lunch.  After lunch, members return to the slopes for more skiing and riding.

Once the lifts close, we return to the lodge for après ski and catch up with each other before heading home.

When and where do OutRyders events take place?

Ski trips take place throughout New England.  We try to hit as many different mountains and resorts as possible each season.  Our out West weeklong trip rotates around the various gay ski weeks. (see Links page)  Socials usually take place in and around the Boston area.

I don’t have a car.  How can I get to the mountain events?

Members without transportation can use the mailing list to ask if anyone can give them a ride to the mountain, often splitting the cost of gas.  Or, members who have cars often use the members-only mailing list to let other OutRyders know that they have space to in their car to bring other members to the mountains.
